No. 5 Aggies Begin Title Run at NCEA Championship

WACO, Texas – The fifth-seeded Texas A&M Equestrian team begins its quest for a national title Thursday as they face off against No. 12 Delaware State at 9 a.m. in the first round of competition at the NCEA Championship at the Extraco Events Center.
Texas A&M is seeking its 12th national championship and first NCEA Overall Championship since 2012.
The Aggies and Hornets competed earlier this season on Nov. 10 at the Hildebrand Equine Complex with the Aggies clinching a dominant, 18-2 victory. Texas A&M swept MOP honors from senior Anna Rea in Equitation on the Flat, junior Kai DeVoglaer in Equitation over Fences, senior Kaci Fisher in Horsemanship and sophomore Haley Franc in Reining. The Maroon and White won both Fences and Horsemanship, 5-0, while taking Flat and Reining, 4-1.
Texas A&M is led by three NCEA First Team All-Americans in Fisher, Avery Ellis and Rachael Hake. Fisher earned a spot on the All-SEC Horsemanship team and went 6-1 against SEC competitors. The Abilene, Texas, native leads the squad with an 11-3 record on the season, while tallying a program high five MOPs, the most since 2011-12.
Ellis was named the SEC Horsemanship Rider of the Year, while earning 10 victories and four MOPs. The College Station, Texas, native notched five wins in SEC competition and held a 10-meet win streak. Sophomore Sarah Orsak also earned All-SEC Horsemanship honors from her 9-5 mark on the season and 2-0 record at the SEC Championships.
Hake holds a program best 12-2 mark on the year, becoming the first rider to tally 12 wins in Fences since the 2010-11 season. The Washington, Mich., native finished the year on a seven-meet win streak, while going 7-1 against SEC competitors and claiming a 2-0 record at the SEC Championship.
In Reining, the Aggies are led by Franc, junior Madison Bohman and senior Sarah Kate Grider who each earned All-SEC honors. All three riders notched nine wins this season, with Franc holding the team-best 9-3 record. Franc is 7-1 versus SEC opponents and went undefeated at the SEC Championship. Bohman claims a 9-4-1 mark, while leading the squad with four MOPs. Grider tallied five SEC victories and one MOP, finishing the regular season, 9-5.
Sophomore Rebekah Chenelle leads the Hunt Seat squad, earning All-SEC honors in Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. Chenelle earned eight wins in Flat, while winning two MOP honors, and recording nine wins in Fences with two MOPs. At the SEC Championship, the Hebron, Conn., native went undefeated in Fences and 1-1 in Flat.
