Aggies Drop Road Debut at No. 15 West Virginia

MORGANTOWN – The Texas A&M women's basketball team lost its road opener against the No. 15 West Virginia Mountaineers, 83-62, Friday evening inside WVU Coliseum.
Aicha Coulibaly paced Texas A&M (2-2) with a season-high 21 points, shooting 8-of-11 (72.7%) from the field. It marked the 20th 20-point game of her career. Solè Williams also registered a season high with 14 points on 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the field.
The Aggies shot 23-of-44 (52.3%) from the field but were doomed by 20 turnovers. Texas A&M went toe-to-toe with the Mountaineers in three of the quarters, but West Virginia (4-0) owned a 27-7 scoring advantage in a decisive third quarter.
At halftime, West Virginia led 33-29 with the Mountaineers' scoring output being its lowest in a half this season.
The Mountaineers pounced on the Aggies with a 10-2 run to start the game. West Virginia eventually stretched the gap to 17-7 at the 1:41 mark, but Texas A&M got buckets from Jada Malone, Erica Moon and Taliyah Parker in a span of 62 seconds to shave the Mountaineers' edge to 17-13 at the first intermission.
West Virginia once again started a quarter strong, going on a 9-4 surge to pull the lead back to nine points, 26-17, at the 5:30 mark. In the final two minutes of the half, Williams hit a 3-pointer and two layups, cutting the deficit to four points headed to the locker room.
The Mountaineers scored the first 14 points of the second half to open a 47-29 lead at the 5:35 mark. WVU widened the margin to 60-33 points before Williams hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to close out the third quarter.
Coulibaly scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, on 6-of-6 shooting from the field. The Aggies cut the Mountaineers' edge to 19 points midway through the fourth, but West Virginia pulled back to a 26-point lead heading into the final minute.
The Aggies return to the court Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. to take on Northwestern State at Reed Arena.
