No. 9 Volleyball Sweeps Mississippi State for Fifth Conference Win

STARKVILLE – The No. 9 Texas A&M volleyball team got back to winning ways as it swept Mississippi State for its 13th win of the season Sunday afternoon at the Newell-Grissom Building, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 26-24).
The Aggies (13-3, 5-1 SEC) secured a dominant sweep over the Bulldogs (13-3, 3-3 SEC), ensuring head coach Jamie Morrison's 50th win leading the program. Logan Lednicky continued to make history for the Maroon & White, entering the programs top-10 for career kills following her match-high 15 on the afternoon.
Taking firm control of the match early was Texas A&M, racing out to a five-point lead as Mississippi State burned its first timeout of the frame (13-8). The Maroon & White's pins piled on the pressure with another six kills in eight Aggie points prompting another break from the hosts (20-12). Freshman Megan Fitch sealed the deal, securing the final two points of the set with her fourth and fifth kill of the set which also ensured her career high (25-18).
The Aggies kept their foot on the gas in the second, as Lednicky struck her third kill of the frame and sixth of the match (5-2). The Maroon & White's onslaught persisted, creating a five-point gap at the media timeout, 15-10. The hosts cut the advantage by one late (20-16), but a 5-2 streak sealed the second (25-18) and doubled the Aggie lead, 2-0.
Mississippi State dug deep to open the third, as coach Morrison gathered his squad (8-5). The Maroon & White responded out of the break courtesy of Fitch at the service line, spearheading the team on a 6-3 run to knot the frame at 11. The programs battled back-and-forth late into the set, finding level again at 20. The deadlock ensued at 24 sending the teams to extras, but it was Texas A&M to strike back-to-back points to take the frame (26-24) and match, 3-0.
