GAINESVILLE – The No. 6 Texas A&M volleyball team kept its winning streak alive, as it swept Florida Wednesday evening at Exactech Arena, 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-23).
The Maroon & White (21-3, 13-1 SEC) extended their winning streak to nine and claimed their 13th sweep of the year after securing the straight set win over the Gators (13-10, 8-6 SEC). The win marked the programs first sweep over Florida and second win in Gainesville. Offensive efficiency was the key in the contest, as the group hit over .300 percent (.348) as a unit for the second-consecutive game.
The Aggies were shot out of a cannon in the opening frame, racing out to a 6-1 advantage with all six points coming through kills forcing an early Florida timeout. The Maroon & White extended the gap to double digits, as the Gators called their final break (18-8). The hosts pushed late in the frame, but the offense kept terminating at an efficient rate with Logan Lednicky's fifth kill of the game sealing the set (25-17) while the group hit at a .406 clip throughout.
Texas A&M held their rhythm from the first frame, remaining dominant on offense to lead by four as Florida called a timeout (13-9). Back-and-forth scoring ensued, with the lead standing at three as the Maroon & White hit 20. Leaving nothing to chance, the Aggies closed the second with a 5-1 streak backed by an ace, a Gator error and three kills capped by Ifenna Cos-Okpalla's fourth of the contest (25-18).
The fast starts remained the trend, as Texas A&M forged separation as they hit double digits (10-6). The Gators settled into the set, knotting the match at 13 as head coach Jamie Morrison called timeout. Florida held its momentum leading by five late (22-17), but there went the Aggies led by Tatum Thomas at the service line to score seven-straight leaving them one point from victory (24-22). The Gators struck one back, but Lednicky wouldn't be denied sealing the frame (25-23) and match, 3-0.
