Women’s Basketball Falls to West Virginia, 63-45

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women's basketball team fell to the West Virginia Mountaineers, 63-45, Sunday afternoon inside Reed Arena.
Fatmata Janneh led the Aggies (6-2) with her second double-double in-a-row, recording 12 points and 10 rebounds. She now has 30 career double-doubles with three on the season. Lauren Ware also logged 10 points and eight rebounds. Ware recorded one block to move into a tie for seventh on the Texas A&M career blocks list with 110.
The Aggies and Mountaineers (10-2) were knotted up to end the first quarter, 14-14. Texas A&M led 14-11 at the 1:20 mark and there were four ties in the tightly contested period. Emerald Parker and Ware led the offense with four points apiece in the opening 10 minutes.
In the second quarter, the Aggies led again, 17-14, but West Virginia used a 10-0 run over a 6:08 period to take a 24-17 advantage. The Mountaineers outscored the Aggies in the second quarter, 19-9, to take a 33-23 lead going into halftime.
The Maroon & White trimmed the lead to seven at the midway point in the third, but West Virginia extended their cushion to 49-36 headed to the fourth. The Aggies were never able to cut the lead to single digits in the final period.
The Aggies return to the hardwood Dec. 21 versus Prairie View at noon inside Reed Arena to wrap up non-conference action.
