Aggie Women Punch 11 Tickets to National Championships on Final Day of NCAA West First Round

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Aggie women punched 11 tickets to the National Championships on the final day of the NCAA West First Round at E.B. Cushing Stadium Saturday night, bringing their total to 12 entries at the meet.
Jasmine Montgomery and Camryn Dickson highlighted the day for the Aggies each punching their tickets in the 100m and the 200m, while also contributing to a pair of relay tickets. In their first individual event of the day, Montgomery recorded a new personal best of 11.02, the fourth-fastest time in program history, in the 100m to take second in her heat while Dickson followed with a time of 11.17 to advance as one of the top-timed qualifiers. Montgomery added a second career best when she went 22.26 in the 200m which was the fastest time in the event by an Aggie in the last 10 years and the fourth-fastest time at A&M. Dickson crossed the line with a time of 22.69 in the 200m, which was good for third in her heat and automatic qualification.
The Maroon & White started off the day in the field with Winny Bii continuing her reign in the triple jump, claiming the top spot overall with a wind-aided leap of 14.00m/45-11.25 to book her return to Eugene.
The 4x100m team of Jasmine Harmon, Dickson, Bria Bullard and Montgomery got the ball rolling on the track after they clocked a time of 43.12 winning their heat and securing an automatic qualifying spot.
Debora Cherono and Kennady Fontenot added qualifying times in the 3,000m steeplechase, finishing second and fourth in their heat, respectively. Cherono continued to rewrite the record books after crossing the line in a school record time of 9:42.55 which was almost 15 seconds faster than her old record. Fontenot followed with a time of 9:58.13 to improve her mark at second in A&M's record book and advanced as a timed qualifier.
The reigning NCAA indoor hurdle champion, Jaiya Covington, booked her spot to the outdoor championships after winning heat three of the 100m hurdles after clocking a time of 12.87 to advance to Eugene.
Jaydan Wood continued the success, as she secured an automatic qualifying spot in the 400m, placing third in her heat with a mark of 51.88.
Finishing the NCAA West First Round for the Maroon & White was the 4x400m squad which included Kennedy Wade, Dickson, Montgomery and Wood, ending the night on a high note winning the third and final heat with a mark of 3:27.67.
