Aug 27, 2025 | Cross Country
FORT WORTH – The Texas A&M cross country team opens its 2025 campaign at the John McKenzie Invitational Friday hosted by TCU at the AP Ranch Championship Country Course.
Kicking off the season in the state, the Maroon & White head to the home of the Horned Frogs for their season opener and will be joined on the 5k course by Amarillo College, Tarleton State, TCU and Wiley College at the event. The races will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the women's event followed by the men's race at 8 a.m.
"We are excited to head up to Fort Worth and kick off the season," distance coach Wendel McRaven said. "The first meet gives us a chance to see where everybody stacks up heading into the year. This year's team will be a mix of experienced veterans and some talented newcomers. This will be our first taste of competition and will give some of our athletes a chance to get some early season racing experience."
The Aggies finished the 2024 season at the NCAA South Central Regional with a pair of top-six team finishes, as the men placed fourth and the women sixth. Individually at the meet, the Aggies secured four All-Region honors, including returners Kennady Fontenot and Zack Munger.
Last time out on the AP Ranch course, the Maroon & White swept the team titles at the 2023 John McKenzie Invitational. The men's team claimed the top five individual finishes, three of those contributors are on this year's roster including Jack Johnston, Aiden Gonzalez-Rodiles and Munger. On the women's side, Texas A&M brings back two of the point scorers from the 2023 meet in Fontenot and Emma Little.
