Aggies Take Carmel Cup by 26 Strokes; Fernández García-Poggio Claims Individual Title
Aug 31, 2025 | Women's Golf
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The No. 7 Texas A&M women's golf team dominated the Carmel Cup with a 26-stoke victory Sunday after Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio earned the individual title after firing a 4-under 68 on the final day at the historic Pebble Beach Golf Links.
"This was an impressive performance," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "Everyone contributed. A big question mark heading into today was how we would respond to having a lead like this, and they were amazing. It wasn't the prettiest thing, but we fought and finished it. This helps us put last season behind us in a way. I am excited to continue to get better and get back out there next week."
The Aggies shot a 13-under 1,067 for the tournament, 26 strokes better than second place No. 11 Vanderbilt (+13). No. 20 Oklahoma State (+16), No. 10 Arkansas (+19) and Oklahoma (+26) rounded out the top five. This was the second largest margin of victory of the Chadwell era, behind the 38 shot triumph at the 2025 "Mo" Morial Invitational.
Fernández García-Poggio birdied No. 17 to get to 8-under 208 for the tournament and ultimately secure the third collegiate victory of her career. Sophomore Vanessa Borovilos came up one stroke back of Fernández García-Poggio for a runner-up finish where she tied with Mississippi State's Avery Weed.
Freshmen Brynn Kort and Natalie Yen both registered top-15 finishes in their collegiate debuts, tying for 14th at 3-over 219. Sky Sudberry took home a share of 16th with a 4-over 220 and Scarlett Schremmer rounded out the lineup with a piece of 23rd.
Texas A&M returns to the course Sept. 8-10 at the Folds of Honor Collegiate which will be broadcast on Golf Channel.
