Ennis Finishes Ninth at Illini Invitational
Sep 21, 2025 | Men's Golf
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Wheaton Ennis paced the No. 16 Texas A&M men's golf team with a ninth-place finish at the weekend's OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational.
Ennis tied with seven other golfers at 1-under 209 for the tournament following his final round 1-over 71 at the par-70, 7,343-yard Olympia Fields Country Club. Texas Tech's Tim Wiedemeyer won the tournament at 6-under 204.
The Aggies finished 12th at the tournament with a three-round score of 23-over 863. They checked in with a 12-over 292 on the final loop. Defending national champion Oklahoma State won the tournament at 6-under 834.
Kris Kuvaas and Aaron Pounds were the next Aggies on the leaderboard tied for 42nd at 7-over 217. They penciled in identical scores all three rounds, finishing with a 2-over 72 after tallies of 71 and 74 the two prior circuits.

On lessons learned from the tournament...
"I'm not a pat you on the back and tell you to learn something from it and it's okay coach. It's more in terms of 'What did you learn about preparing for a big-time golf course and this kind of golf tournament?' 'What would you do different?', 'What can we do different to help you be more prepared?' In general we got our tail kicked a little bit. Wheaton (Ennis) did a heck of a job and got a lot out of what he was doing. But we made very few birdies all week and it's really tough to kind of keep going on a golf course this difficult without making some birdies. It was a tough week for us, but we'll certainly grow from this."
On the quick turnaround preparing for next week's Ben Hogan Collegiate...
"I think getting home in the heat and on our kind of grass can help stabilize us a bit. We'll get a good week's work in and then head to Fort Worth. We'll be ready for another good tournament – another true test of what we're trying to do. It's a good way to bounce right back. It's not a lot of time to lick your wounds. You just get right back on the horse and get going."
