CARY, N.C. – Two Aggies represent Texas A&M women's tennis in the ITA All-American Championships at Cary Tennis Park. The tournament runs through Sept. 28, for a spot in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
No. 64 Daria Smetannikov competes Monday in the qualifying round of 64 against Berta Passola Folch of UC Berkeley. No. 22 Mia Kupres is battling in the main draw, beginning Wednesday. The two seniors team up in doubles as well.
Kupres concluded her 2024-25 campaign with a 27-6 singles record while going 18-15 in doubles, which warranted All-SEC Second Team and NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team recognition.
Smetannikov notched a 29-12 singles record while on court 5, while earning 24 doubles wins.
The tournament consists of players from all around the country with 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams, looking to be one of the 10 singles qualifiers or four doubles qualifiers to secure their spot in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
Former Aggie, Mary Stoiana was crowned champion in singles play in 2023. In her trek to the title, Stoiana took down No. 110 Sophie Abrams of NC State, No. 40 Ange Oby Kajuru of OK State, former No. 1 Dasha Vidmanova of Georgia, No. 25 Sarah Hamner of South Carolina, and No. 3 Alexa Noel of Miami.
