Aggies Place Second at John A. Burns Intercollegiate
Feb 14, 2026 | Men's Golf
LIHU'E, Hawaii – The Texas A&M men's golf team finished in a tie for second place at the 49th annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate following Saturday's third round action.
The Maroon & White posted a 3-over 283 for the last loop to share runner-up recognition with UNLV at 5-under 835. Loyola Marymount won the tournament with a 10-under 830 tally. New Mexico was the only other squad in the 19-team field to clear par, finishing 1-under 839.
Wheaton Ennis and Jaime Montojo finished tied for 18th place to lead the Aggies. They registered three-round scores of 1-over 211. Alex Long and Aaron Pounds were one stroke back in 21st place at 2-over 212. Loyola Marymount's Trever Algya won the tournament at 8-under 202.
Jack Usner rounded out Texas A&M's starting five with a 38th-place showing at 5-over 215. Two Aggies playing as individuals, Kris Kuvaas and Jake Maggert, tied for 30th at 4-over 214.

On the trouble getting momentum in the final round...
"The wind blew hard, so scoring was difficult. In general, the holes that were out there to score birdies on we didn't handle very well. All week we were uncharacteristically poor on the par 5s. I think the team that won beat us by 16 or 18 shots on the par 5s. The rest of the golf course we played quite well. The hard holes and the really difficult stretches we played them well. So there were a lot of positives, but they (Loyola Marymount) handled those holes better than us, so it was difficult to get any momentum going."
On what they will work on during the two-week break...
"It's a learning process. This all about development and putting our best foot forward. That's kind of how we run our program. That's how we'll always run our program. We take these events and we learn from them. We've been kind of in the mix or in the hunt to win these two tournaments right out of the gate, which is really good. We're getting better in some areas, so there are a lot of positives to take from it.
"But I'm a very poor loser. I don't like getting beat, so I don't just take moral victories from anything. But in terms of what we've seen these first two events, we've had some really good play out of some guys that are kind of newcomers, so to speak in the lineup. They've put up some good scores on the board for us."
