Feb 04, 2026 | Softball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 11 Texas A&M softball team is set to host the Aggie Classic to open the 2026 campaign beginning Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against ACU, followed by Utah State at 7 p.m. at Davis Diamond.
The Maroon & White return to action Friday at 4:30 p.m. against Providence. Saturday features a top 15 matchup against National runner-up No. 1 Texas Tech at 4:30 p.m., before the Aggies close out the opening weekend Sunday at 9:30 a.m. against Providence.
MY-OH-MYA
Mya Perez enters the 2026 season as one of the nation's top hitters after a breakthrough sophomore season earning All-America Second Team honors, as well as NFCA All-Region Second Team and All-SEC First Team accolades. The Corona, California, native broke a 43-year old Texas A&M program single season record with 73 RBI, while her .424 batting average was third best and .804 slugging percentage was sixth best all-time in school history. She ranked top 20 nationally in on-base percentage (.561) and RBI (73). Perez was dominant against ranked opponents last season hitting .400 with seven home runs and six doubles, producing a .760 slugging percentage, while adding 28 RBI, 15 runs and 20 walks.
SHIFT TO THE SIX
KK Dement makes the move to shortstop in her sophomore season after posting one of the better freshman seasons at second base in Texas A&M history. Dement earned D1 Softball All-America Freshman First Team honors, along with NFCA Central All-Region First Team and SEC All-Tournament Team accolades in 2025. The Selma, California, native led the Aggies in 2025 in doubles (18), two-out RBI (27) and her 16 homers tied for a team best, while ranking second among the Aggies in slugging percentage (.743), total bases (124) and third in RBI (64). Dement stepped up in postseason action slashing .500/.577/1.364 in seven games, while leading A&M with five home runs, four doubles and a 1.941 OPS
LOCKED CORNER, OPEN BASEPATHS
Senior Kennedy Powell has been a permanent fixture at the "hot corner," starting every single game of the 2025 season at third base. Since joining the Aggies in 2024, she has appeared in 119 total games, starting 118 of them. Powell finished a perfect 19-for-19 in stolen base attempts for the 2025 season. Remarkably, she has successfully swiped 25 consecutive bases without being caught, a streak that dates back to early February 2024. As the primary leadoff hitter, Powell led the team with 63 runs scored in 2025, setting a program single-season record. Her presence on the basepaths is a winning formula for the Aggies, who posted a 36-5 record in games where she scored at least one run. She tied the Texas A&M program record for most runs scored in an SEC season with 24, while ranking second in the conference for stolen bases and third in runs during league play.
