Track & Field Shines on Final Day of UTSA Invitational

SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M Track & Field team concluded a strong opening outdoor meet securing eight event titles on the final day of the UTSA Invitational Saturday at the Park West Athletic Complex.
The Maroon & White kickstarted their outdoor campaign, claiming 12 wins over the weekend with four on the first day and eight on the final day. The Aggies dominated in the field capturing eight titles, while adding four on the track.
Setting the tone for the day was Abigail Martin, as she captured a first-place finish in the women's discus recording a toss of 56.29m/184-8. Carlie Weiser added a fourth-place finish in the event (50.92m/167-1), and following suit on the men's side was Ethan Sanders who also finished fourth with a mark of 55.77m/183-0.
The men's triple jumpers had an impressive day, headlined by Jaydon Shield's personal-best leap of 15.66m/51-4.50 to secure first place. Jaden Harris and Daniel Falode finished second and third with leaps of 15.65m/51-4.25 and 15.63m/51-3.25 (+3.0), respectively.
Ava Riche cleared a personal-best bar of 4.10m/13-5.50 to win the pole vault and moved up to No. 7 in the Texas A&M record book. Following closely was Emery Prentice in third (3.95m/12-11.50) as she made her debut in the A&M all-time list at No. 12, while Ella Vajdos recorded the same mark to place fifth.
Momentum continued in the field, courtesy of Etoro Bassey as the freshman came out on top in the men's high jump clearing 2.19m/7-2.25 to enter his name at No. 6 in the Aggie record books in the event.
The Maroon & White hit the ground running on the track, as the women's 4x100m quartet consisting of Machaeda Linton, Camryn Dickson, Anya Jackson and Jasmine Montgomery won the relay with a time of 43.58.
Montgomery doubled down shortly after in her 100m season opener, as the senior clocked a wind-aided time of 11.16 in the final heat to secure her second title of the day. Matthew Maldima also put out a strong showing in the men's event finishing second in an aided 10.14.
The Aggies' 4x400m relays capped off the meet on a high, sweeping the top spots in both the men's and women's races, while also claiming second with their second group in the men's event. The women were first up and Peace Nwaelehia, Tyler Lowe, Lacarthea Cooper and Jahnile Registre crossed the line in 3:33.16 to ensure their win. For the men, Jaise Lee-Alridge, Musa Isah, Iliya Dryaba and DeMarco Escobar won the event in 3:08.70, while Blake Holland, Stefon Dodoo, Reece Sharman-Newell and Jakub Szarapo showed the program's depth in the event as they captured second in 3:13.93.
