Track & Field Wins 13 Events on Final Day of 44 Farms Team Invitational

COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field team impressed on the final day of the 44 Farms Team Invitational winning 13 events Saturday at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
Dominance was the word to describe the final day of action at the 44 Farms Invitational, as the Aggies won 12 out of the 15 events they entered on the track. The group also tacked on another victory in the field and entered two athletes in the A&M all-time performers list.
The Maroon & White opened the track events on fire, as they swept both the 4x100m relays. The women took the track first, and the quartet of Anya Jackson, Camryn Dickson, Aysha Shaheed and Jasmine Montgomery crossed the line in a blistering time of 43.03 which ranks as the No. 5 time in the nation. The men followed suit, as Matthew Maldima, David Foster, Blake Holland and Keanu Jones won their event in 39.20.
The wins kept rolling in, as Debora Cherono led a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Aggies in the women's 1,500m. Cherono topped the group in 4:26.28 and she was followed by Alexandra Fox in second (4:27.00), Megan Roberts in third (4:30.07) and Emma Little in fourth (4:35.66). Reece Sharman-Newell dominated on the men's side, winning the event in 3:43.52 which entered him at No. 6 in the A&M record book. He was tailed closely by Youssef Asslouj in second (3:44.82) and Carter Gordy in fourth (3:48.03).
The clean sweeps continued in the hurdles, courtesy of all-time greats Jaiya Covington and Ja'Qualon Scott. Covington won the women's 100m hurdles with an impressive time of 12.85, while Scott clocked 13.12 to win the men's 110m hurdle event.
Kimar Farquharson kept up the winning ways in the 400m, as the senior clocked a time of 46.02 for the win. He was followed by Eric Hemphill III who landed on the podium, taking third in 46.17.
The 100m sprinters left nothing to doubt, as Dickson blazed away from the field with an all-conditions best time of 11.02 to win the event. Her mark ties her for third in the country for the event. Foster joined the party in the men's race, clocking 10.09 for his victory.
The individual victories were rounded out by the 3,000m steeplechase duo of Kennady Fontenot and Hunter Jackson. Fontenot blew away the field, finishing in 10:45.91 which was over a minute faster than second place. Jackson in the men's field did the same, bringing it home in 9:17.60, 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher.
The final win of the day came from the men's 4x400m group. DeMarco Escobar, Iliya Dryaba, Musa Isah and Lawson Jacobs clocked 3:07.05 to put a final stamp on the weekend. The women's group of Peace Nwaelehia, Dickson, Montgomery and Lacarthea Cooper placed third in 3:31.02.
Milena Chevallier had a career day in the high jump, as the sophomore won the event with a personal-best leap of 1.82m/5-11.5. The mark entered her at No. 10 in the A&M all-time list and No. 12 nationally this year. Etoro Bassey captured second on the men's side with a leap of 2.11m/6-11. Also impressing in the field was Jaden Harris in the triple jump, as he recorded a personal-best mark of 15.67m/51-5 to take second in the event.
The javelin groups started the day, and it was the Fairchild sisters who landed a pair of podium finishes. Katelyn took second in the women's event with a toss of 54.33m/178-3, while McKenzie placed third after a mark of 52.55m/172-5. Sam Hankins was the top finisher for the men, placing third after a throw of 70.48m/231-3.
