Scott, Nnamdi Record Nation-Leading Marks on Opening Day of Tom Jones Memorial

GAINESVILLE – Texas A&M track & field's Ja'Qualon Scott and Zaza Nnamdi etched their names in history on the opening day of the Tom Jones Memorial, as Scott broke his own 400m hurdles school record while Nnamdi recorded the No. 4 javelin mark in NCAA history Friday at the James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track.
Scott further cemented his legacy as the greatest hurdler in program history after breaking his own school record in the long hurdles. He clocked a career-best mark of 48.22 to finish as the top collegiate and second overall in the event. His time ranks No. 1 in the nation this year and stands at No. 2 in the world behind only world-championship medalist Trevor Bassitt who won the event on the day (47.82).
Nnamdi made history of his own in the field, as he recorded a personal-best throw of 84.68m/277-10 to take the men's javelin title. His mark ranks No. 1 in the country, No. 2 in the A&M record books, No. 3 in the world this year, as well as now standing at the No. 4 in NCAA history and No. 7 in African history. Nnamdi now leads the country by a staggering margin of over four meters.
Oleg Ananev added the third mark of the day that landed in the all-time performers list, this time in the men's pole vault. He cleared the bar at 5.40m/17-8.5 which placed him 10th in the record book and was good for fifth in the event.
Camryn Dickson and Jasmine Montgomery impressed with a pair of top-10 finishes in the women's 200m. Dickson crossed the line fourth overall with a time of 22.51, while Montgomery secured 10th in 22.84.
On the women's side of the javelin, Katelyn Fairchild and McKenzie Fairchild recorded a 3-4 finish. Katelyn placed third with a mark of 51.65m/169-5, while McKenzie was right behind following a toss of 51.48m/168-11.
Adding another pair of top-eight finishes in the field to conclude the day were Etoro Bassey in the men's high jump after a clearance of 2.15m/7-0.5 to place fifth and Morgan Davis wrapped it up taking eighth in the women's long jump with a mark of 6.20m/20-4.25.
