Aggie Women Capture 4x200m Title on Second Day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – The Texas A&M track & field team captured the women's 4x200m title on the second day of the Penn Relays, Friday at Franklin Field.
The 4x200m quartet of Aysha Shaheed, Jasmine Montgomery, Anya Jackson and Camryn Dickson secured the Maroon & White's first Penn Relays wheel of the weekend after crossing the line in 1:31.25. The time was the fastest at the meet since 2015 and marked A&M's seventh victory in the event at the Penn Relays.
Starting the day 4x100m groups set the tone for the day in Philadelphia, as both ensured advancement to Saturday's final. The women's quartet of Jackson, Dickson, Shaheed and Montgomery had another standout showing, clocking the best time of the prelim of 43.69. On the men's side, Matthew Maldima, David Foster, Blake Holland and Keanu Jones ran 39.73 which won their heat and landed them fifth overall.
Conting to punch finals spots for Saturday were both 4x400m teams. The women's team consisting of Lacarthea Cooper, Tyler Lowe, Peace Nwaelehia and Jahnile Registre ran the top time in the prelims of 3:28.08. The men followed suit, as Iliya Dryaba, Musa Isah, DeMarco Escobar and Lawson Jacobs won the men's contest in 3:03.10.
The hurdle duo of Jaiya Covington and Ja'Qualon Scott claimed a pair of individual finals spots on the day. Covington ran an impressive sub-13 mark of 12.98 to win the women's event, while Scott finished in 13.56 to top the men's field.
The Maroon & White had another pair of top-eight finishing relays, as the men's sprint medley relay group which included Jacobs, Holland, Kimar Farquharson and Peter Narumbe secured second with a time of 3:14.38. Rounding out the results from Penn was the distance medley relay team of Reece Sharman-Newell, Eric Hemphill III, Grant Ashby and Ondrej Gajdos who placed seventh after clocking 9:36.23.
Flipping to the Michael Johnston Invitational in Waco, Aleksandr Solovev added a win of his own after taking the pole vault title in his season opener. He cleared 5.51m/18-1 to ensure the win and jumped into the top-20 nationally. Oleg Ananev also took fourth in the event (5.36m/17-7) and Leo Bowen was sixth (5.21m/17-1). In the women's field, Ella Vajdos entered the outdoor all-time performers list at No. 12 after a personal-best showing of 4.03m/13-2.5 which was good for seventh, while Ava Riche recorded the same mark to place eighth.
