Borovilos Leads Aggies in First Round of “Mo” Morial Invitational
Apr 06, 2026 | Women's Golf
BRYAN – The No. 3 Texas A&M women's golf team found itself in a tie for second place Monday after the first round of the 22nd "Mo" Morial Invitational due to the efforts of Vanessa Borovilos who was the individual leader after 18 holes.
"We played a little better coming in but did not play the front nine very well," Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "We weren't very sharp in the practice round so that probably carried over into today. Fortunately, there is way more golf to be played than has already been played. We will have opportunities tomorrow and our team is excited to get back out there."
The Aggies shot 14-over 302 and were one stroke back of Tulsa (+13) for the lead. The Maroon & White shot 9-over on the front nine as a team but turned in a cleaner 5-over on the back to inch closer to the top at the difficult Traditions Club.
Borovilos went 1-under 71 for the round just two days removed from tying for 11th at the prestigious Augusta National Women's Amateur. The sophomore was in the lead by one stroke and is seeking her second individual victory this season.
"Traditions is no joke, even though we play it every day you still need to keep your mind right out there," Borovilos said. "I think the greens were receptive today. We were all able to go at most of the pins, but it was nice playing on the home course."
Sky Sudberry held onto a share of 12th at 3-over 75 and Louise Reau was tied for 26th with a 5-over 77. Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio and Natalie Yen rounded out the lineup tied for 41st and 46th, respectively.
Mia Nixon, competing as an individual, took a piece of eighth place with her into Tuesday, scoring a 2-over 74. Avery Zweig in her first collegiate action and competing as an individual was tied for 17th at 4-over 76. Brynn Kort and Kynadie Adams rounded out the individuals tied for 47th and 55th, respectively.
The Texas A&M B team comprised of Nixon, Zweig, Kort and Adams was tied for ninth at 23-over 311.
The Aggies begin the second round at 10:10 a.m. from No. 1. Live stats can be found at scoreboard.clippd.com.
