Track & Field Opens Postseason at SEC Championships

AUBURN – The Texas A&M track & field team opens its outdoor postseason campaign with the SEC Championships held at the Hutsell-Rosen Track, May 14-16.
The Aggies set their sights on the conference championships and enter the meet in good from, as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association ranks both groups in the top 10 nationally with the men holding fifth and women seventh.
Regular-Season Wrap Up
A&M closed out its nine-meet regular season slate with five new school records and 61 event wins throughout the campaign.
Setting the new standards at the top of the record book included Camryn Dickson in the 200m (22.15), Ja'Qualon Scott in the 400m hurdles (48.22), Michael Moiben in the 10,000m (28:28.90), Henry Zimmerman in the hammer throw (69.04m/226-6) and the men's 4x800m relay team (7:11.64).
Another standout performance this season came from Zaza Nnamdi, as the senior cemented himself among the all-time greats in the men's javelin. He recorded a mark of 84.68m/277-10 at the Tom Jones Memorial which broke his personal best, ranks second in the Aggie record books, fourth in NCAA history and seventh in African history.
Top-Ranked Aggies
Heading into the conference championships, the Aggies gathered 13 top-ten nationally ranked marks, with the men tallying eight and the women five.
Nnamdi and Scott headline the group, leading the country in the javelin (84.68m/277-10) and 400m hurdles (48.22), respectively. Scott also clocked the No. 6 time in the 110m hurdles of 13.36. The Aggies' 4x400m relay group has impressed all season, holding the No. 3 (3:01.56), No. 4 (3:01.62) and No. 9 (3:03.10) marks. Peter Narumbe clocked 1:45.05 in the 800m to rank fifth, while Etoro Bassey rounds out the group landing at ninth in the high jump (2.19m/7-2.25).
On the women's side, Dickson leads the pack with two top 10 marks, standing at No. 3 in the 200m (22.15) and No. 7 in the 100m (11.02), while Jaiya Covington is this third in the 100m hurdles (12.79). In the throws, Katelyn Fairchild holds seventh in the javelin (56.59m/185-8) and Abigail Martin is ninth in the discus (58.88m/193-2).
Last Year's Championships
At the 2025 championships, the Maroon & White delivered a pair of strong finishes, as the women took second and the men fourth. The group as a whole brought home 15 medals, including eight on the women's side and seven on the men's.
Texas A&M returns 10 medalists from the 2025 championships, including SEC Champion Aleksandr Solovev in the pole vault, silver medalists Jasmine Montgomery (200m), Victor Kibiego (3,000m steeplechase), Kimar Farquharson (4x400m) and bronze medalists Covington (110m hurdles), Scott (110m hurdles, 400m hurdles), Dickson (4x100m), Montgomery (4x100m) and Debora Cherono (3,000m steeplechase).
The Field
All 16 programs will have women's teams competing at the meet, while 15 schools are represented on the men's side. 11 of the men's and women's programs are nationally ranked in the top 25.
