No. 3 Aggies Face No. 5 Tar Heels in NCAA Quarterfinals

ATHENS – The No. 4 seed Texas A&M Aggies face the No. 5 seed North Carolina Tar Heels in Friday's NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship quarterfinal action. First serves at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex are 6 p.m.
Texas A&M punched its ticket to Athens with wins over Quinnipiac in the first round, 4-0, Baylor in the second, 4-1, and No. 13 USC in the Super Regional, 5-1. The Aggies boast a 25-5 record on the season.
Led by the No. 1 player in the nation, Lucciana Perez, the Maroon & White earned their fifth straight quarterfinal slot. Perez was named SEC Player of the Year, finishing her regular season league run with a 13-0 record. Senior Mia Kupres logged conference honors, being named to the All-SEC Second Team. She is ranked No. 50 and posted a 16-9 mark this year. Three other Aggies join the pair in the ITA rankings, including Ilinca Amariei at No. 71, Daria Smetannikov at No. 98 and Lexington Reed at No. 106.
The Tar Heels enter Athens with a 27-3 record and as ACC Tournament semifinalists. UNC's path to the quarterfinals included wins over Charleston Southern, 4-0, South Carolina, 4-0, and No. 12 Michigan, 4-2. UNC is led by No. 2 Reese Brantmeier, who has posted a 16-3 record at the top line. Other Tar Heels featured in the ITA ranking are No. 18 Ange Oby Kajuru, No. 42 Tatum Evans and No. 116 Maddy Zampardo.
UNC holds the all-time series advantage, 11-4. The Aggies triumphed in the last meeting during their 2024 National Championship run. Texas A&M defeated the Tar Heels on their courts, 4-1, in the NCAA Super Regional round.
The winners of the match advances to Saturday's semifinal round, where they will face No. 2 Georgia or No. 8 NC State for a spot in the championship final.
