
Davis Secures Long Jump Title on Second Day of SEC Championships

AUBURN – Texas A&M track & field's Morgan Davis highlighted the second day of the SEC Championships as she secured the long jump title Friday at the Hutsell-Rosen Track.
Davis captured the second title of the week for the Maroon & White, and in doing so ensured her sweep of the indoor and outdoor SEC long jump titles. The contest came down to the final round, where Davis ranked fifth before her attempt. Needing a career-best mark, she did just that with a leap of 6.55m/21-6 to claim her win. The mark also moved her up to No. 3 in A&M history. In the men's event, Khybah Dawson also secured points after an eighth-place result following a jump of 7.58m/24-10.5.
The pole vaulters maintained the point scoring in the field, as Aleksandr Solovev and Leo Bowen delivered for the men's team. Solovev made it back-to-back years with a medal at the outdoor championships, capturing bronze with a clearance of 5.55m/18-2.5. Bowen matched his personal-best mark of 5.40m/17-8.5 which tied for seventh.
Debora Cherono tacked on five points of her own to the women's total in the 3,000m steeplechase, as the sophomore clocked 9:51.44 which landed her fourth.
Milena Chevallier started the point scoring earlier in the day in the women's high jump after clearing 1.76m/5-9.25 to finish seventh.
The Aggie hurdlers had a perfect qualifying round, as all four athletes advanced to tomorrow's finals. Jaiya Covington in the women's event clocked 12.88 to win the opening heat and advances second overall. On the men's side, Ja'Qualon Scott, Jasiah Rivera and DJ Taylor secured timed-advancing spots. Scott clocked 13.35, while Rivera ran the 11th-fastest time in program history of 13.66 and Taylor crossed the line in 13.71.
Camryn Dickson added another event to her Saturday schedule, as the senior won the fifth heat of the 100m prelims in 11.23 which secured automatic advancement to the final fourth overall.
After the second day of competition, the Aggie women rank third in the team standings with 24.5 points, while the men hold seventh with 22.75 points.
