An integral part of the culture within the Texas A&M basketball team, former Virginia Tech basketball standout Wabissa Bede enters his third season as the program aide in 2023-24.
In this role, Bede assists with all aspects of the program, recruiting organization, student-athlete development, advanced analytics and camps. Bede was recruited to Virginia Tech by then-head coach Buzz Williams and he played his first two seasons for Williams.
An accomplished point guard in his playing days, Bede was a four-year letterwinner for the Hokies from 2017-2021 and helped Virginia Tech to three NCAA Tournament appearances. He led the Hokies in assists as a junior and senior and finished his career with 351 which ranks on the school’s top 10 list. Nominated for the 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award, Bede amassed 453 points, 279 rebounds, 351 assists, 97 steals and 30 blocks in 117 games.
As a junior in 2019-20, Bede registered 177 assists with just 53 turnovers for the nation's sixth-best assist-to-turnover ratio at 3.34. His 5.53 assists per game ranked fourth in the ACC and his 177 total assists ranks as the third-most in a season in Virginia Tech history. An excellent student, Bede was a two-time ACC All-Academic selection and was nominated for an ACC Honorary Postgraduate Scholarship in 2020-21.
The North Andover, Massachusetts, native graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor's degree in communication studies with a minor in sociology, and his master's degree in agricultural and life sciences with a concentration in leadership studies.
