Aggies' Season Ends with a 5-1 Loss to Bulldogs

Designated player Kristen Gunter went 2-for-3 with one RBI in the Aggies' 5-1 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs on Friday in an elimination game at the NCAA Regional in Athens. With the loss the Aggies' were knocked out of regional play and end their season with a 33-22 mark while the Bulldogs improved their record to 53-16.
"I thought our kids came out and played great today," head coach Jo Evans stated. "We hit the ball hard but they really made a lot of nice plays. I thought our effort was great and we competed well. I hate to see our season end this way but we had a nice run and I look forward to what lies ahead for this program."
Georgia, the designated visitors, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first off an A&M error before the Aggies evened the game in the second inning. After shortstop Adrian Gregory singled, Gunter stepped up and delivered an RBI with a double to left center.
The Aggies and Bulldogs battled it our the majority of the game before Georgia added one in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead that they would not relinquish.
Senior Jessica Kapchinski (18-10) took the loss in the game after throwing 4.2 innings and giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out five.
Redshirt freshman Jill Weynand threw 2.1 innings in relief and did not give up a run on two hits and one walk.
The Aggies finished the regular sesason ˝ game behind Nebraska for the Big 12 title and placed six players on the all-conference team as well as taking home the Big 12 Coach, Player and Pitcher of the Year awards. They had three players named to the all-region team and set the team single season record for stolen bases with 129.
The Aggies say goodbye to three seniors, Sherah Atkins (Clute, Texas), Jessica Kapchinski (Humble, Texas) and Lindsay Wilhelmson (North Richland Hills, Texas).
