No. 3 Aggies ready for road test at No. 9 South Carolina
Feb 19, 2016 | Equestrian
COLLEGE STATION – No. 3 Texas A&M equestrian travels to Blythewood, S.C., to take on No. 9 South Carolina Saturday at 9 a.m. CT.
"It was good to have a week off," head coach Tana McKay said. "Road meets in the SEC are always tough, no matter what the rankings are. We know we have our work cut out for us, but I feel like we have had some really good, solid practices. It looks like we will have good weather and it should be a good competition."
The Aggies (7-2, 2-2 SEC) are coming off a 10-8 upset victory over then-No. 3 Baylor on Feb. 5. Senior Hannah Jechow earned MOP honors in Reining, defeating Mary Brown, 70.5-69. In Equitation on the Flat, senior Audrey Gallagher was named MOP following her 81-79 victory over Jenny Mitchell.
Sophomore Alex Desiderio leads A&M in Equitation over Fences with a 7-1 record on the season. Senior Hannah Williams holds a 5-2-2 record in Flat, while sophomore Avery Ellis and senior Rachel Lucht lead Horsemanship with five wins. Senior Ashley Dotson looks to continue her unbeaten season in Reining at 8-0-1.
The Gamecocks are currently 3-6 (0-4 SEC) on the season and are coming off a 13-7 loss against No. 2 Georgia Feb. 6.
The Aggies will wear black ribbons Saturday to honor Dr. Josie Coverdale, a Texas A&M animal science professor and friend of the team, who passed away earlier this week.
