No. 4 Texas A&M heads to Athens for SEC Championships
Mar 24, 2016 | Equestrian
COLLEGE STATION – No. 4 Texas A&M equestrian heads to Athens, Ga., for the SEC Championships at the UGA Equestrian Complex. The Aggies (9-4, 3-3 SEC) will square off with No. 2 Georgia in the first round of action on Friday beginning at 8 a.m.
"After a tough loss, we have had some pretty good practices this week," head coach Tana McKay said. "They have been very productive practices. We are looking forward to playing Georgia again. Having two meets come down to one point is always a hard pill to swallow, so we are looking forward to being on neutral horses and having two judges. It is still going to be a challenge, but it is as neutral as we can get, so I am looking forward to seeing where the cards fall. I think we are ready."
Senior Hannah Jechow leads A&M's Reining squad, who have posted an 11-2 record this season, with a 10-3 mark, while seniors Ashley Dotson and Logan Pluhar are 9-3-1 in the event.
Sophomore Avery Ellis paces the Horsemanship group with an 8-4 record and is currently on a three-meet winning streak. Junior Rachel Lucht is 7-5-1 on the season and junior Kaci Fisher is 6-4-2 after earning MOP honors against SMU with a 74.5-72 victory over Jaclyn White.
In Equitation on the Flat, sophomore Alex Desiderio and seniors Audrey Gallagher, Marlena Parker and Hannah Williams have each recorded six wins. Desiderio holds an 8-4 record in Equitation over Fences, while Parker is 7-4-1.
Friday's victor will take on the winner of the Auburn-South Carolina meet Saturday for the championship meet.
