No. 4 Texas A&M edged out by No. 2 Georgia at SEC Championships

BISHOP, Ga. – No. 4 Texas A&M equestrian was defeated by No. 2 Georgia, 13-7, Friday in the first round of action at the SEC Championships at the UGA Equestrian Complex.
The Aggies (9-5, 3-3 SEC) took an early 3-2 lead after Horsemanship as sophomore Avery Ellis scored the first point with a 147.5-144.5 victory over Greysen Stroud. Junior Kaci Fisher followed suit, defeating Rachel Kolb, 148-136. Senior Carolyn Day knocked off Sammie Johnson, 144.5-142.5.
Georgia rallied to gain a 6-4 advantage, winning Equitation over Fences, 4-1. Sophomore Alex Desiderio earned the lone point for the Aggies, topping Maddie Newman, 168-141.
In Equitation on the Flat, freshman Rebekah Chenelle defeated Addy Cord, 156-144, before Desiderio recorded a 149-145 win over Leylan Gleeson. Senior Logan Pluhar toppled Lindsey Cheek, 136-133.5, in Reining.
A&M will face South Carolina in the consolation match Saturday at 8 a.m. Live scoring for the meet can be found online at www.georgiadogs.com.
