Apr 13, 2016 | Equestrian
WACO, Texas – The fifth-seeded Texas A&M equestrian team will square off with No. 12 Fresno State in the first round of action at the NCEA Championships Thursday at the Extraco Events Center.
"This is what we have been working for all year," head coach Tana McKay said. "We have had some really good practices after the SEC Championships, so I think the girls are ready."
The Aggies and Bulldogs faced each other earlier this season on Oct. 24, with A&M winning via the tiebreaker, 9-9 (1412.5-1383). Seniors Hannah Williams (Equitation on the Flat) and Hannah Jechow (Reining) earned MOP honors.
A&M is led by its three senior NCEA All-Americans in Jechow, Ashley Dotson and Logan Pluhar. In addition, Jechow and Pluhar were also named to the Reining All-SEC Team. Jechow has recorded an 11-4 mark on the season with four MOP honors and went 4-2 in SEC meets.
Pluhar earned 11 wins with three MOP honors and compiled a 4-1-1 record in SEC meets and went 2-0 at the SEC Championships. Dotson claims a 10-4-1 mark with three MOP honors and compiled a 5-1 record in SEC meets.
In Horsemanship, the Aggies are led by sophomore Avery Ellis, who earned All-SEC honors, and junior Kaci Fisher. Ellis holds an average score of 71.6 in the event and finished 5-3 against SEC competitors, including two wins at the SEC Championships. Fisher has recorded eight wins with two MOP honors and posted a perfect 2-0 record at the SEC Championships.
Sophomore Alex Desiderio leads the Hunt Seat squad, earning All-SEC honors in Equitation over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. Desiderio leads the Aggies with nine wins in Fences, while earning two MOP honors, and recorded seven wins in Flat with two MOPs.
