Mar 23, 2017 | Equestrian
COLLEGE STATION – No. 4 Texas A&M Equestrian heads to Auburn, Ala., for the SEC Championships at the Auburn University Horse Center.
The Aggies (8-4, 3-3 SEC) will face off in the two-three matchup against Auburn (8-3, 4-2 SEC) in the first round of competition on Friday beginning at 9 a.m.
"We are excited to go back to Auburn. It has been a while since we have been there," head coach Tana McKay said. "We are excited to be participating in another SEC Championship and all of the things that go along with a conference championship. It is a big stage and a good precursor to our national championship as well. We have our work cut out for us [with Auburn]. We are looking forward to the challenge because we tied them in the fall at their house on their horses. The exciting thing is that we are all on neutral horses, so it will be exciting to see how things shake out."
In Equitation on the Flat, sophomore Rebekah Chenelle heads the team with a 7-5 mark on the season. Junior Maddie Swem follows close behind with six wins. Chenelle is 7-5 in Equitation over Fences, while junior Rachael Hake ranks first on the team with an impressive 10-2 record.
In the Western Arena, the Aggies hold a 9-2-1 record on the season.
Senior Kaci Fisher and junior Avery Ellis each have 10 wins and four MOPs this season, leading the way for the Maroon & White's Horsemanship team, who has posted a 10-2 record this season. Junior Bailey Cook and sophomore Sarah Orsak have also recorded seven wins.
Junior Madison Bohman is 8-3-1 in Reining, tied for the team high in wins with senior Sarah Kate Grider. Sophomore Haley Franc has tallied seven victories to rank third.
Friday's winner will take on the victor of the Georgia-South Carolina meet on Saturday for the championship, slated for 1:30 p.m.
