Aggies Lose Series at No. 7 LSU, 5-1

BATON ROUGE – The No. 12 Texas A&M softball team fell to No. 7 LSU, 5-1, dropping its first series of the season Friday night at Tiger Park.
Texas A&M (28-6, 8-3 SEC) scored in the opening frame as Julia Cottrill singled to right driving in Amari Harper for her 14th two-out RBI of the season. The Aggies spoiled numerous scoring opportunities leaving 11 runners on base, while hitting 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
LSU (28-4, 7-4 SEC) tied the game in the fifth, before plating four runs on two hits and six walks in the sixth to make it 5-1.
Starter Shaylee Ackerman tossed 3.2 hitless innings before the Tigers mustered an infield single. Ackerman finished the night totaling 4.0 innings with two strikeouts, while allowing three walks, two hits and one run. Emily Leavitt (6-1) came in relief with a runner on first and was saddled with her first loss of the season after one inning of work, while yielding two walks and one run.
