Aggies Drop Game One of Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown

AUSTIN – The Texas A&M baseball team dropped a 2-1 pitcher's duel at No. 1 Texas Friday night in the series opener of the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Trailing 2-0 entering the eighth, the Aggies (24-17, 8-11) cut the deficit in half, 2-1, as Ben Royo, who reached on a leadoff double, came around to score on an error. Following a single from Caden Sorrell, the Maroon & White had two on with two outs but a strikeout ended the threat.
In the ninth, Texas A&M had the tying run on second and the go-ahead run on first with two outs but a strikeout put an end to the rally and the contest.
The Longhorns (35-5, 17-2) opened the scoring in the third with an RBI double and later added to their lead in the seventh with a solo homer to right.
Starter Ryan Prager (2-3) was handed the loss despite working 5 2/3 innings of one-run baseball. The left-hander also struck out three and allowed only one walk on the night.
