No. 2 Texas A&M Falters in Series Opener Against No. 9 Arkansas, 7-5
Apr 26, 2025 | Softball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 2 Texas A&M softball team fell behind the eight ball early, while its late rally fell short in the series opener against No. 9 Arkansas, 7-5, Friday night at Davis Diamond.
Miscues proved to be costly as Texas A&M (40-7, 13-5 SEC) was doomed by three errors leading to three unearned runs, while the offense hung two crooked frames for a late rally before falling short in its second consecutive SEC loss.
After a scoreless first inning, Arkansas (35-9, 11-8 SEC) drew first blood with a lead off home run in the second frame. The ensuing batter reached on a fielding error, followed by a single and another Razorback reaching on an error to double the lead. Arkansas added to the lead with an RBI ground out, before sitting the Aggies down in order in the bottom half as Texas A&M trailed, 3-0, through two innings of play.
Aggie starter Emiley Kennedy settled down and retired 10 straight batters before Arkansas strung together consecutive singles. The Razorbacks hung their second crooked frame with a three-run home run as the Maroon & White trailed, 6-0, heading to the bottom of the fifth.
Texas A&M found the scoreboard after Allie Enright reached on a three-base fielding error to right field, while KK Dement followed with an RBI double to center field to cut into the deficit, 6-1.
Grace Sparks entered the circle in the sixth and yielded a leadoff single before the Aggie defense turned a 5-4-3 double play and a foul out to end the top half. The Maroon & White loaded the bases with no outs after Amari Harper walked, Mya Perez singled and Mac Barbara walked. Wooley hit into a fielder's choice with the force out at home, followed by a strikeout. Dement lined a two-out single to right center to score pinch runners Scout Lovell and Hailey Golden to make it a three-run game, 6-3.
Arkansas added an insurance run in the seventh, scoring on a bases-loaded two-out fielding error. Trailing four runs, 7-3, Harper singled through the left side as Perez followed with a home run off the video board to come within two, 7-5. Barbara earned her third walk of the game, before a ground out exhausted all hope of a late Aggie comeback.
Kennedy was saddled with the loss moving to 16-4 on the season after going 5.0 innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits.
