Texas A&M Dismantles Texas, 14-2, to Advance to SEC Title Game
May 09, 2025 | Softball
ATHENS – The No. 2 seed Texas A&M softball team run-ruled No. 3 seed Texas, 14-2, in five innings to advance to the SEC Tournament Championship game, Friday night at Jack Turner Stadium. Saturday's title game against No. 1 seed Oklahoma has been moved to 12 p.m. due to incoming inclement weather.
Texas A&M (45-9) hung three crooked frames with three jacks, including six runs in the first, five in the second and three in the third, while Aggie starter Emiley Kennedy kept Texas (46-10) limited to five hits and two runs. A&M's 12-run margin of victory is the largest by either team in their 50 all-time meetings.
Amari Harper led the offense going 3-for-3, 1 HR, 1 2B, 6 RBI, 3 R, while KK Dement went 2-for-3, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 2 R. Koko Wooley added three runs, and Mya Perez scored a pair of runs. Kennedy moved to 21-4 tossing her 18th complete game going 5.0 innings with one strikeout, while yielding one walk and two runs.
After allowing a Longhorn lead off single, Kennedy retired the next eight batters before Texas led the top of the fourth with a single and scratching the scoreboard with a pair of runs after two more singles.
Kennedy Powell led the bottom of the first with a single, followed by Wooley reaching on a full count walk and Perez loading the bases on a catcher's interference call. Mac Barbara singled through the left side to score Powell, while Harper doubled down the right field line to score Wooley and Perez for a quick 3-0 lead. Dement doubled the Aggie advantage with a three run home run to center field, before a couple of strike outs and fly out ended the inning.
Ol' Sarge's charges continued to attack the Longhorns in the second inning when Wooley singled and Perez reached on a fielding error before Barbara drove in a run on a ground out for the 7-0 advantage. Harper singled up the middle to enter run rule territory before Dement delivered her second bell ringer with a two-run shot to center as the Aggies were hanging 10 with only one out. Kramer Eschete knocked an RBI triple to center for an 11-0 lead.
The Maroon & White continued the onslaught in the third adding three more compliments of Harper blasting a three run round tripper to right center for a commanding 14-0 advantage after the third.
Texas A&M advanced to its first SEC Tournament title game since joining the league, while it's the third conference title appearance in program history after beating Nebraska in 2008 and losing to the Cornhuskers in 2000 when the Aggies were members of the Big 12.
