
Cos-Okpalla Named Tournament MVP, Leads U.S. to Gold at Pan American Cup

LEÓN, Mexico – Texas A&M volleyball's Ifenna Cos-Okpalla led the United States U23 national team to the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation Pan American Cup title after sweeping Canada in the final Friday evening. The Aggie senior was named Tournament MVP and Blocker of the Championships.
Cos-Okpalla claimed her first international tournament title in her national team debut, as she led the United States to an undefeated 5-0 run through the U23 Pan American Cup. The Flower Mound, Texas, native dominated throughout the championships, racking up 51 points, 31 kills, 17 blocks and three aces.
She opened her account in pool play, where she played in two of the three matches, starting with a double-digit point outing (10) versus the Dominican Republic in a 3-0 sweep. Cos-Okpalla came right back in the third match against Puerto Rico, tacking on nine points in another decisive 3-0 sweep to ensure automatic qualification to the semifinals.
In the penultimate match of the tournament, the United States battled hosts Mexico in what turned out to be the match of the tournament. The teams traded blows, as the match came down to a decisive fifth set. Cos-Okpalla was the difference when her team needed it, powering the Red, White and Blue to the final after posting her first international double-double with a staggering 23 points on 12 blocks and 11 kills.
Cos-Okpalla and the United States faced Canada in the championship round and continued to dominate, sweeping the match with an impressive point differential of 75-50 to ensure the first international title of her career.
