Lednicky Leads No. 9 Volleyball Past No. 11 Minnesota at AVCA First Serve, 3-1
Aug 25, 2025 | Volleyball
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Logan Lednicky's offensive masterclass pushed No. 9 Texas A&M past No. 11 Minnesota at the AVCA First Serve event Monday evening at the Sanford Pentagon, 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21).
The Aggies (1-0) opened their 2025 campaign on the front foot, as they powered by the Golden Gophers (0-1) behind Lednicky's 24-point outing which included 22 kills, 2 blocks, 12 digs while hitting at .421 percent. Her performance earned her match MVP honors and secured her 25th-straight match with double-digit kills.
The Aggies and Gophers opened the match with a back-and-forth battle, as the squads found themselves tied at 10 at the first media timeout. Minnesota crept out to a two-point advantage late in the set (20-18), however the Maroon & White ripped off a 7-3 run behind a defensive masterclass from Ifenna Cos-Okpalla as she blocked three swings late and entered Texas A&M's top-10 for career blocks after surpassing 367, as the Aggies took the advantage in the match (25-23), 1-0.
In similar fashion to the first set, nothing separated the teams as they were knotted seven times to the first timeout (10-10). The Maroon & White created some separation following the break, but the Gophers countered to hold a two-point buffer as the Aggies huddled up (20-18). Minnesota built on its lead and closed out the set (25-21), tying the match at one frame all.
Needing to flip the momentum, the Maroon & White did just that, leading at the midway point in the set behind 11 kills through the first 13 points (13-11). Texas A&M continued to build on its gap, forcing the Gophers to huddle up (20-15). The Aggies didn't let Minnesota get close, retaking the advantage in the match, 2-1 (25-21).
Carrying their rhythm into the fourth, Texas A&M raced out to a four-point advantage at the opening break (10-6). The Gophers battled back within one at the mid-way point, but the Maroon & White put their foot on the gas once again creating a three-point cushion as Minnesota called its final timeout. The gap wouldn't get any closer, as the Aggies took the set (25-21) and match, 3-1.
