HOUSTON – The No. 9 Texas A&M volleyball team heads back on the road to the Tudor Fieldhouse for the Rice Invitational for a pair of fixtures versus the host Owls and Central Arkansas on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The Aggies hit the 2025 campaign running, securing a top-12 win over No. 11 Minnesota (3-1) in their season opener at the AVCA First Serve event in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Texas A&M's potent offense was on full display, spearheaded by All-American Logan Lednicky who tallied 22 kills and was named match MVP. She was followed by Emily Hellmuth who also landed in double-digits with 15 and transfer Kyndal Stowers was right behind with nine in her Maroon & White debut.
The offense was orchestrated by two-time SEC Setter of the Week in the 2024 season, Maddie Waak, who dished out 51 assists in the four-set match averaging a staggering 12.75 per set.
The middle blocker tandem of Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Morgan Perkins displayed their defensive prowess at the net. Cos-Okpalla had a match-high eight blocks in the opener, while Perkins tacked on three stuffs of her own.
A trio of freshmen made their collegiate debuts versus the Golden Gophers, with Addi Applegate headlining the group with five digs and an ace, while Megan Fitch and Kirra Musgrove saw action in the victory.
The Matchups
The Maroon & White face the host Owls Friday in their opening match, an opponent they have faced 40 times in the past while holding a dominant 36-4 record all-time. Rice fairs better in its home gym with three of its wins coming in Houston, however Texas A&M rolls in on a 14-match win streak versus the Owls with their most recent win coming in the 1990 season.
Returning to action the following day, the Aggies take on an unfamiliar foe in Central Arkansas. Saturday's matchup will be the first meeting between the programs, and it comes in a neutral setting. Since head coach Jamie Morrison's arrival in the 2023 season the Maroon & White have fared well in neutral-site matches, boasting a 7-1 record in his first two years and 2025 season opener.
Milestone Tracker
Waak looks to cross the 2,500 career-assists threshold, as the senior sits just 26 (2,474) shy of the mark entering the weekend.
Lednicky extended her double-digit kill streak to 25 matches following her 22-kill outing versus Minnesota. She also sits nine-kills shy of eclipsing 1,250 for her career.
Perkins sits one block shy of 200 since she began donning the Maroon & White her sophomore year.
