
Soccer Open SEC Play with Home Contest vs. Georgia

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M soccer team opens its 14th SEC campaign when the Aggies host the No. 24 Georgia Bulldogs for Friday's league lid lifter 7:30 p.m. at Ellis Field.
The Aggies enter the fray with a 3-1-3 with wins against Lamar (1-0), UConn (2-1) and Lafayette (7-1). They have draws against Baylor (1-1), Texas State (1-1) and SFA (0-0). Most recently, Texas A&M dropped a 2-1 decision at No. 4 TCU.
Bella Yakel has played all 630 minutes to lead the Aggies. The center back entered the campaign as the most seasoned Texas A&M player, having accumulated 4,132 minutes during her three seasons at Portland. The senior defender has 64 Division I camps on her résumé, including 56 starts.
Leah Diaz leads the Aggie offense with 10 points on three goals and four assists. Trinity Buchanan and Kaylee Noble have eight points with three goals and two assists apiece.
Texas A&M has two shutouts on the season, including one each with Erica Defferding and Sydney Fuller patrolling the woodwork.
Texas A&M owns a 7-4-0 edge in the series against Georgia with all the meetings coming since the Aggies joined the SEC in 2012. Nine of the 11 matches have been decided by one goal. The Bulldogs have won the last three contests, including victories in the last two SEC Tournaments. Last year, Georgia eliminated Texas A&M with a 1-0 triumph in the first round, scoring in the 19th minute. The teams have met three times at the SEC Tournament. In 2023, Georgia's Croix Bethune scored the winner with 27 seconds remaining in the second OT period of a 3-2 triumph. In 2014, Bianca Brinson, Annie Kunz and Meghan Streight scored for Texas A&M in a 3-0 quarterfinal victory en route to winning the SEC crown.
The Bulldogs are 4-2-2 on the season with wins against Albany (6-0), North Carolina (2-0), Michigan (3-0) and North Florida (6-0). The tied Washington State (1-1) and Clemson (1-1) while dropping matches against UCLA (1-0) and Wyoming (1-0).
Summer Denigan leads Georgia with 13 points on six goals and one assist. Kiera Staude has added four goals. Hannah Folliard has logged 618 minutes in goal, posting a 0.58 goals against average.
