Track & Field Sets Out for Don Kirby Elite Invitational and David Hemery Valentine Invitational

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M track & field team heads to the Don Kirby Elite Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center, Feb. 13-14.
The Maroon & White prepare for their third road meet of the season after an impressive showing at the Charlie Thomas Invitational. The team broke two school records, secured 12 event titles, recorded eight Texas A&M all-time marks and 29 personal bests.
SEC Women's Freshman of the Week Lily Carlson headlined the record-breaking weekend, as she cleared 4.47m/14-8 in the women's pole vault to win the event. The York Springs, Pennsylvania, native improved her No. 1 spot in the Texas A&M record book and now ranks at No. 10 in the nation and No. 2 in the SEC. Henry Zimmerman secured first in the men's weight throw as he surpassed his school record for the third time this season with a toss of 22.14m/72-7.75.
On the track, the Aggie women dished out four wins fronted by Camryn Dickson in the 200m as she crossed the line with a personal-best time of 22.62 to set the Charlie Thomas Invitational meet record in the event. Dickson climbed the A&M all-time performers list to No. 2 and ranks second nationally, her performance earned notice from the SEC, as she was named Women's Runner of the Week. Sophia Bendet contributed to the victories, after recording the No. 9 performance in the Aggie record books in the women's 800m with a time of 2:07.06. Rounding out the wins, was Jaiya Covington in the 60m hurdles (8.22) and the 4x400m relay with a mark of 3:33.67.
The multi event duo of Sofia Yakushina and Blake Harris dominated their respective events as they produced another two wins for the Maroon & White. Yakushina was named SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Week after she accumulated 4,336 points which ranks third nationally and first in the conference. Harris followed suit in the heptathlon, winning the event with 5,867 points to record a personal-best and improves his mark at No. 2 in the A&M record books.
Adding to the momentum on the oval were the men, as they claimed three victories of their own. Auhmad Robinson took the title in the 400m (45.58), Reece Sharman-Newell captured his first win of the season in the 800m (1:47.73), while Michael Moiben sealed the 3,000m with a time of 8:09.09. Flipping over to the field, Aleksandr Solovev cleared 5.60m/18-4.5 in the pole vault ensuring the final win for the Aggies.
The Maroon & White added three additional record book performances including Joyce Kemboi who entered the women's mile ranks at No. 3 (4:42.23), while Megan Roberts debuted at No. 8 (4:47.26) in the event. On the men's side, Lawson Jacobs catapulted to No. 11 the 200m with a mark of 20.68.
