Feb 19, 2026 | Softball
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The No. 13 Texas A&M softball team defeated No. 14 Duke, 11-5, after dropping a 2-1 decision to No. 14 Oregon on Thursday in Day 1 of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
Micaela Wark paced the offense with five RBI on the day, including a home run in each game, while Frankie Vrazel was the lone Aggie to record multiple hits in both contests. Wark, along with Mya Perez and Tallen Edwards, recorded multiple hits and multiple runs on the day. Texas A&M (8-4) mustered just one run on five hits in the opener before eight of the nine starters collected hits to score 11 runs in the nightcap.
Sidne Peters earned her fourth win of the season, tossing 6.0 innings with five strikeouts while allowing three runs. Kate Munnerlyn was saddled with the loss in game one. Aggie starter Sydney Lessentine struck out three batters in 5.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits.
After three scoreless innings against Oregon, Wark broke the ice with a home run to center field. Oregon (6-5) answered in the bottom half of the inning with a solo homer of its own. Lessentine walked the leadoff batter in the fifth before retiring the next three Ducks in order.
Oregon's first two batters reached base following an Aggie pitching change to start the bottom of the sixth. After a strikeout, an Oregon single loaded the bases before an RBI groundout gave the Ducks a 2-1 lead. Texas A&M recorded a one-out single in the seventh, but Oregon ended the rally with consecutive fielder's choices.
The Maroon & White erupted for seven runs on eight hits in the nightcap, including home runs by Ariel Kowalewski, Maddie Sauni and Wark, to take a 7-1 lead through four innings. Duke (8-4) opened the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer before Perez answered with a two-run tater in the sixth as the Aggies extended their advantage to 9-2.
Following a Duke home run to trim the lead to six, Texas A&M pushed the margin back to eight runs, 11-3, after Kennedy Powell stole second and advanced to third, allowing the lead runner to score, before Kowalewski doubled down the right field line to plate Powell.
Peters faced two batters in the seventh before Taylor Pannell entered in relief and induced three flyouts to end the Blue Devil threat.
