
TOURNAMENT PREVIEW: Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE – The Texas A&M Aggies men's golf team returns to the Louisiana Classics looking to reclaim the title with play beginning Monday and Tuesday at Oakbourne Country Club.
The Aggies have won three of the last four Classics. Ol' Sarge's charges cleared the field by 12 strokes in 2022 and 11 strokes in 2023. In 2024, Phichaksn Maichon paced the Maroon & White while they won by a whopping 17 strokes.
The two-day tournament will feature 36 holes Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start before the final round Tuesday with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. on the par-72, 7,141-yard Oakbourne layout.
Texas A&M finished runner-up at last year's event after a final round battle with the LSU Tigers. Maichon led the Aggies a year ago with a third-place finish at 7-under 209 to earn All-Tournament honors. Wheaton Ennis also made the All-Tournament squad after tying for fourth at 5-under 211, while Aaron Pounds tied for 10th at 3-under 213.
Texas A&M enters the tournament ranked No. 29 in the Scoreboard by Clippd rankings. Pounds returns as the Aggies' highest-ranked player, sitting No. 25 in the Scoreboard National Player Rankings while Ennis ranked No. 72.
Jaime Montojo, Alex Long and Kris Kuvaas round out the Aggies' lineup. Jacob Sosa, Jack Usner and Shiv Parmar are competing as individuals for the Aggies.
Half the field is ranked in the top 100. Along with Texas A&M, No. 48 Little Rock, No. 65 South Alabama and No. 79 Michigan are top contenders.

COURSE
Established in 1955, Oakbourne Country Club is renowned for its mature oak trees and beautiful water hazards. A claim to fame of the club is being the home of two former winners of the PGA Championship – Lionel and Jay Hebert – the only brother duo to claim the title. Formerly swampland, architect Dick Wilson
laid out the course with future tweaks by Ken Dye and Joe Finger. The course is well-maintained by superintendent Jason Barra. The course served as host of the PGA Tour's Lafayette Open Invitational (1958-59) and Cajun Classic Open Invitational (1960-68).
