No. 15 Texas A&M Claims Series Over No. 11 Georgia

COLLEGE STATION – The No. 15 Texas A&M softball team claimed the series over No. 11 Georgia with a 2-1 win in the rubber match after splitting Friday's doubleheader at Davis Diamond.
Kennedy Powell paced the offense in the series finale, going 2-for-3, including the go-ahead RBI double in the fourth inning to give the Aggies a 2-1 lead. Ariel Kowalewski and Paislie Allen also recorded multi-hit performances, while Madi Sauni added an RBI.
Sydney Lessentine (11-3) earned the win, tossing 5.2 innings with three strikeouts while allowing one run on seven hits and two walks. Sidne Peters recorded her third save of the season, entering in the sixth inning and striking out three over the final 1.1 innings.
Georgia (28-10, 7-5 SEC) struck first in the nightcap with a solo home run in the second inning.
Texas A&M (26-12, 8-4 SEC) answered in the bottom half as KK Dement led off with a single and later scored on Sauni's pinch-hit RBI single.
After a scoreless third, Kelsey Mathis singled and advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. Powell followed with a double down the third-base line, plating Mathis for a 2-1 advantage.
Both teams traded scoreless frames until Peters entered in relief and struck out three of the final four batters to seal the win.
In Game 1 of the doubleheader, Georgia took an early 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the second inning.
Texas A&M responded in the bottom half, loading the bases on a single, double and walk before Kowalewski and Dement scored on a wild pitch and throwing error.
Georgia tied the game at 2-2 in the third with a sacrifice fly, then seized control with multi-run innings in the fourth and fifth. The Bulldogs hit back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth and added five runs on five hits in the fifth to build a 9-2 lead.
Micaela Wark and Kowalewski hit back-to-back solo home runs in the fifth to cut the deficit to 9-4. The Aggies continued to chip away as Paislie Allen added a home run, and Powell doubled and later scored on a throwing error.
Kate Munnerlyn (0-4) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and one walk in 1.1 innings.
