
Aggie Men Finish Fourth, Women Sixth at SEC Championships

AUBURN – The Texas A&M track & field team concluded the SEC Championships with the men taking fourth and the women securing sixth Saturday at the Hutsell-Rosen Track.
The Maroon & White concluded the conference championships with a pair of top-six team finishes and return a nine-medal haul to Aggieland. The men racked up 64.75 points, while the women accumulated 58.5.
The two highlights of the final day came courtesy of a pair of freshmen, as Etoro Bassey and Peter Narumbe both claimed silver medals. Bassey saved his best performance of the year for his first outdoor championships, as he cleared a personal-best bar of 2.23m/7-3.75 for his first SEC medal. The mark jumped him up from No. 6 to No. 4 all-time for the Maroon & White. Narumbe followed that up on the track, as the 800m standout had one of his signature kicks on the final 200m to ensure second place with a time of 1:45.46.
Machaeda Linton kickstarted the point scoring on the day in the women's triple jump, as the senior landed on the podium following a third-place finish. She leapt 13.24m/43-5.25 on her second attempt which ranks No. 9 in the Aggie all-time performers list and held throughout the event to secure her bronze medal.
Ja'Qualon Scott captured A&M's first medal on the track of the day in the 110m hurdles, as the senior finished third in 13.28. The podium trip marked his third-straight outdoor conference medal. The freshman duo of DJ Taylor and Jasiah Rivera each tacked on points for the team after placing seventh (13.83) and eighth (13.89), respectively. On the women's side, Jaiya Covington added to the women's team point total after taking fifth in the 100m hurdles clocking 12.93.
Camryn Dickson rounded out the medal finishes on the day, clocking a time of 22.45 in the 200m which was good for third. Jasmine Montgomery and Anya Jackson added on to the nine-point tally in the event, with Montgomery taking seventh (23.16) and Jackson placing eighth (23.18).
The Aggies saw plenty of relay success on the final day, with the women's 4x100m group of Jackson, Dickson, Aysha Shaheed and Montgomery leading the way finishing fourth in a season-best time of 42.87 which ranks 11th in program history.
Continuing that success to the 4x400m's that concluded the meet, the men's quartet of Eric Hemphill III, Musa Isah, DeMarco Escobar and Kimar Farquharson clocked 3:00.77 to place fourth while also moving to No. 9 in Aggie history. On the women's side Jahnile Registre, Dickson, Montgomery and Lacarthea Cooper ranked fifth with an impressive mark of 3:25.10 to enter the team at No. 5 all-time.
Scott doubled down on his successful afternoon, adding a fourth-place result in the 400m hurdles with a time of 49.13 which brought his point contribution to 11 on the final day.
The field group added a pair of fifth-place finishes to their tally, as Lily Carlson secured the first SEC points of her career after clearing 4.21m/13-9.75 in the pole vault, while Daniel Falode leapt 16.01m/52-6.5 in the triple jump.
Stefon Dodoo joined Narumbe in the point scoring for the men's 800m, taking sixth in a personal-best time of 1:46.17 which rose him to No. 9 in program history.
Dickson rounded out the individual scorers on the afternoon with a seventh-place results in the 100m after running 11.18.
The final individual event of the meet saw a school record be taken down, as Michael Moiben continues to impress during his rookie campaign. The freshman broke his second program best of the season, this time breaking the 5,000m record by over two seconds after clocking 13:37.52
The Aggies finished higher than Texas on both sides of the championships, securing the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown for Texas A&M with a score of 11.5 points to 7.5. The A&M track & field and cross country teams accounted for six of the Aggies' 11.5 points.
