
Softball Sweeps Baylor Sunday With 3-2 Victory

WACO, Texas - The Texas A&M softball team swept Baylor on Sunday with a hard-fought, 3-2 victory in front of a crowd of 1,289 at Getterman Stadium.
The Aggies (31-19, 8-9 Big 12) won their second straight Big 12 road game and took their second contest from the Lady Bears (36-19, 11-7 Big 12) for their second sweep of the season. In addition, head coach Jo Evans earned her 500th win at the helm of Texas A&M softball.
"Our team played great today and I'm really proud of them," said Evans. "They came out here ready to play. The only thing better than beating Texas on a Saturday night is to come over and beat Baylor on a Sunday. We put together a great weekend. Our team played hard and they really fought for their lives in these last two games."
The Aggies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first off the bat of senior Holly Ridley. The Sugar Land, Texas, native singled up the middle with two down to score junior Macie Morrow who reached on a one-out base hit to right center.
A&M moved runners into scoring position the next two innings, but could not push anything across.
Freshman Rebecca Arbino got the nod for the second straight day and was perfect through three innings before Brette Reagan connected for a two-out single in the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth frame, Alex Colyer led off with a double and was scored on a single up the middle by Meagan Weldon. The Lady Bears proceeded to load the bases and lead-off batter Tiffany Wesley put Baylor ahead, 2-1, with a sacrifice fly to left.
A&M answered in the top of the sixth. Ridley led off with line-drive single to center and stole second before junior Bailey Schroeder laced a one-out double to right center to plate Ridley and knot the score at two apiece
In the top of the seventh, sophomore Macie Morrow. Senior Erin Glasco then drew a walk before sophomore Rhi Kliesing launched an RBI single to the wall in right center to score Villarreal for the go-ahead run.
Baylor put a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh, but Arbino forced a fly out and a groundout for the final two outs of the game.
Arbino (11-6) gave up two runs on four hits, walked two and struck out three in the win. Whitney Canion (23-15) earned the loss after allowing three runs on nine hits, walking three and fanning 10.
Ridley was a perfect 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI and Kliesing went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Aggies locked in the sixth seed for the Big 12 Championship next weekend in Oklahoma City, Okla. They will play their first game of the single-elimination tournament against the No. 3 seed Baylor at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
