COLLEGE STATION – Looking to return to their winning ways, the No. 15/13 Texas A&M men's basketball team concludes a two-game road swing Saturday as the Aggies face LSU at noon inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge.
The race for the SEC crown has tightened up with the Aggies (18-6; 7-4 SEC) entering the pivotal SEC affair just one game off the pace set by Kentucky, LSU and South Carolina, who are tied atop the conference standings with identical 8-3 ledgers in league play.
Saturday's contest will mark the Aggies' first appearance on CBS this season with Spero Dedes calling the play-by-play action and Doug Gottlieb providing color commentary. Additionally, radio coverage will be provided on the Aggie Sports Network, which can be heard locally in the Bryan/College Station area on WTAW (1620 AM).
Earlier this season, the two squads faced off in College Station with Texas A&M emerging a 71-57 winner in front of a Reed Arena record crowd of 13,888 spectators.
The Aggies pulled away late in a tight game, clamping down defensively to force the Tigers to misfire on 17 of their last 21 shot attempts during the contest.
For the entire game Texas A&M owned a 42-28 edge in points in the paint and dished out 21 assists on 28 made baskets. Senior Jalen Jones notched a game-high 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field while the heralded Aggie freshmen class made major contributions. A&M rookies chipped in 37 points in the win – Tyler Davis (18), Admon Gilder (13) and DJ Hogg (6).
Led by a talented roster that is highlighted by one of the nation's most celebrated players in freshman Ben Simmons, the Tigers (15-9; 8-3 SEC) are coming off a 94-83 loss at South Carolina on Tuesday night.
During SEC play, LSU stands out at the league's highest scoring team by averaging 79.3 points per outing while shooting 47.5 percent from the field and 35.3 from beyond the arc. Texas A&M, conversely, ranks second in league play, allowing opponents just 66.8 points per game while dishing out an SEC-leading 16.1 assists per contest.
