Softball Preview: Campbell/Cartier Classic

SAN DIEGO – The No. 25 Texas A&M softball team travels west to compete in the Campbell/Cartier Classic beginning Friday at 12 p.m. against No. 14 Oregon at the SDSU Softball Stadium.
Following the top-25 matchup, Texas A&M (4-0) plays host San Diego State (3-2) at 5 p.m. to wrap up the opening day. Action continues Saturday against LMU (1-3) at 12 p.m., followed by a rematch with SDSU. The Maroon & White conclude the weekend with a second bout against Oregon (4-2) on Sunday at 12 p.m.
LONG BALL FOR THE WIN
Ol' Sarge's charges blasted nine home runs in four wins on opening weekend, including multiple round trippers in four consecutive games for the first time since 2016. The Aggies rank second in the nation averaging 2.25 dingers per game and are sixth in total home runs. Junior Allie Enright leads the team with three bell ringers, including a two-run and three-run home run, before adding a grand slam in the come from behind win over Tulsa.
2,000 WIN CLUB
Texas A&M eclipsed win No. 2,000 in program history after a 12-4 (5 inn.) victory over Lehigh on opening day. The Maroon & White joined elite company as only a handful of schools have registered 2,000 wins in their program's history. Florida State ranks No. 1 (2,186), UCLA No. 2 (2,115), Arizona No. 3 (2,096), Oklahoma No. 4 (2,019) and Texas A&M (2,002) rounds out the top five.
CALIFORNIA LOVE
The Campbell/Cartier Classic marks the first of two trips for Texas A&M to the Golden State. A&M returns at the end of the month for the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton on Feb. 29 - March 2. The Aggies are visiting familiar territory as seven players and three coaches on the roster hail from California, including three from Hanford (Jeff Harger, Russ Heffley, Gracyn Coleman) and two from Corona (Amari Harper, Mya Perez). Others returning to their home state include, head coach Trisha Ford (Fremont) and players Allie Enright (Santa Clarita), Jazmine Hill (Norwalk), Emily Leavitt (Chino), Sav Price (Rio Linda).
