Aggies Run-Rule Valpo, Lehigh to Open 2024 Season

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION - The No. 24 Texas A&M softball team run-ruled Valpo (11-0) and Lehigh (12-4) to open the 2024 season, Friday night at Davis Diamond. The pair of victories marked the 2,000th win in Aggie softball program history.
Allie Enright led Ol' Sarge's charges finishing the night 4-for-5, including a home run in each game, one double, six RBI and one stolen base. Julia Cottrill, Keely Williams and Rylen Wiggins each added long balls of their own. Texas A&M's 6-7-8 batters (Williams, Enright, Wiggins) finished a combined 8-for-14, while driving in 14-of-21 RBI for the Maroon & White. Trinity Cannon went 1-for-1 with two runs and five walks as she finished the night as the lone Aggie to reach base safely in every plate appearance.
The Texas A&M pitching staff stifled opposing hitters all night holding the opposition to a .184 batting average. Most notably, Shaylee Ackermann and Brooke Vestal combined for the shutout in game one allowing only two hits and two walks. Aggie pitchers struck out 10 batters in 10.0 innings of work, while allowing four walks and one extra base hit in the two games.

The Maroon & White continue day two of the Aggie Classic with a 3:30 p.m. tilt against Lehigh (0-2), followed by a 6:30 p.m. bout with Tulsa (2-0).

T2| Brooke Cannon was hit-by-pitch with no outs and after two strikeouts she advanced to second on Amanda Greaney's walk. B4| Amari Harper hit a leadoff single, touched second on Powell's bunt and was able to reach third on a throwing error by Lehigh. Cottrill walked to load the bases, and everyone advanced on a wild pitch including Harper who reached home. The bases reloaded when Cannon went to base on balls and Hill drew a walk scoring Powell.
