Men’s Basketball Opens 2025-26 Season Against Northwestern State
Nov 02, 2025 | Men's Basketball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – A new era of Texas A&M men's basketball begins Monday as head coach Bucky McMillan and the Aggies open the 2025-26 season against Northwestern State at 7 p.m. at Reed Arena.
Texas A&M brought in 14 new faces in the offseason, including nine players from Power 4 programs after returning just one player from the 2024-25 roster. The group is led by team captain Rashaun Agee, who brings a strong voice and veteran leadership to the experienced squad. Over the last three seasons, Agee has tallied 21 double-doubles and scored 15+ points 26 times, appearing in 97 games.
The Aggies are 12-1 in season openers since joining the SEC and 13-0 in home openers during that time frame. McMillan holds a 4-1 record in season openers, falling only at No. 2 Purdue to begin the 2023-24 season. Texas A&M boasts an 11-2 all-time record against Northwestern State. The two teams last met in 2022 when the Aggies claimed a 64-52 victory at Reed Arena.
In preseason play, the Maroon & White topped Arizona State, 95-88, in an exhibition game in Houston, battling through 11 ties and six lead changes to secure the late advantage and maintain their distance until the clock hit zero. Zach Clemence impressed off the bench with 20 points, including five threes, while Rylan Griffen added 16 points and Josh Holloway tallied nine assists. As a team, the Aggies knocked down 13 threes, shooting over 53-percent from range in the second half, while holding the rebounding advantage, 44-34.
McMillan aims to secure the 100th victory of his college coaching career, entering the game with a 99-52 record in five years at the helm at Samford. In that time, McMillan guided the Bulldogs to four consecutive 20-wins seasons, three SoCon titles and the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance in more than 20 years in 2024. He was recognized as the SoCon Coach of the Year three times.
Fans can watch the game on SEC Network+ or listen to the Voice of the Aggies Andrew Monaco alongside John Thornton on the Texas A&M Radio Network. Live stats for the game can be found here.
