Mar 15, 2025 | Baseball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Defensive miscues and a late homer doomed the No. 19 Texas A&M baseball team Saturday afternoon as they dropped the middle game to No. 17 Alabama, 6-2, at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
Trailing 2-1 in the eighth, Wyatt Henseler came through in the clutch for the Aggies (10-8, 0-2) as the third baseman plated the tying run in Sam Erickson with an RBI single. In the ninth, the Crimson Tide (19-1, 2-0) responded with a grand slam to jump back in front for good, 6-2. A costly Texas A&M error aided the big inning for Alabama.
The Maroon & White put a pair of runners on with one out in the bottom half of the frame but a double play ended the contest.
After five scoreless frames, the Crimson Tide struck first with an opposite field home run to Section 12 in the sixth. A pair of Aggie errors allowed Alabama to threaten again in the seventh as they loaded the bases with only one out. Texas A&M was able to limit the damage to just one run in the inning courtesy of an incredible running catch into the wall in right center by Jace LaViolette, keeping the score at 2-0.
In the bottom half, the Maroon & White responded with a one-out RBI single from Sawyer Farr that scored Terrence Kiel II, who reached on a walk. The Aggies advanced the tying run to third on Farr's single but a double play ended the Texas A&M scoring opportunity.
Starter Justin Lamkin was dealt a no-decision despite five strong innings of one-run baseball. The junior also totaled eight strikeouts and became the 22nd player in program history to reach 200 strikeouts for a career.
Inside the Box Score
The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. at Blue Bell Park.
