NCAA TOURNAMENT NOTES
Texas A&M (45-9) was tabbed the No. 1 national seed in the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament, marking the first time in program history to be declared the top overall seed. The Aggies are making their 35th appearance and 23rd-straight appearance in the tournament, the seventh longest active streak in the NCAA. A&M boasts a 93-73 overall record in NCAA action, including a 35-8 record when hosting the regional round. This season marks the 17th time to host a regional in program history and the first in consecutive years since the 2017 and 2018 seasons. A&M returns 56% (19-of-34) of its run production from last year's postseason stretch that reached the super regional round for the first time since 2018. Koko Wooley leads the group of returners after posting a .478 batting average going 11-for-23, including one double, while adding one RBI and six runs in last season's run. Kennedy Powell was 7-for-23 (.304) at the dish with a double and a home run, while adding four RBI and four runs. Emiley Kennedy led the Aggies in the pitching circle in 2024 with a 3-1 ledger, including three complete games in four starts with two shutouts. She struck out 17 batters in 27.2 innings of work with a 3.54 ERA.
KOKO GOES LOCO
Wooley is one of the most dynamic athletes on Texas A&M's roster, if not the nation, and is a fan favorite among the 12th Man. When postseason time rolls around, the senior outshines like none other. In 14 games in her NCAA postseason career, the senior is batting .429 at the dish (23-for-49), including one double, one triple, while adding 11 runs and one RBI. Big Ko recently snapped out of an 0-for-14 slump with a game-winning RBI double in a 1-0 thriller at No. 2 Tennessee. Since then, she has reached base safely in 12 of her last 14 plate appearances and scored 10 runs — including three in each of the past three games. The senior has placed her name in numerous Aggie all-time top 10 lists, including No. 3 in triples (17), No. 4 in hits (244), No. 5 in stolen bases (79) and No. 5 in runs (167). Wooley recently garnered NFCA All-Region Central First Team recognition, adding to her All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Tournament Team honors this season.
RUN IT UP
Ol' Sarge's charges have scored double-digit runs in 20 games this season, while winning 18 games via run-rule. The Maroon & White have outscored their opponents 168-66 in road games, while outscoring ranked opponents 183-117. Texas A&M is 31-0 in games when scoring six or more runs, including 13 games against ranked opponents. Powell has steadily been climbing the Texas A&M all-time ranks in scoring. The junior finished with 24 runs in the SEC regular season, matching a program best set by Kaitlyn Alderink in 2016. Powell is only four runs away from breaking the Aggie program record of 60 runs in a season set by Sharonda McDonald in 2007. The Aggies are 33-5 in games when Powell scores a run, including a 16-1 record when she scores multiple times. Under head coach Trisha Ford, the Aggies are 6-4 in postseason play with a +8 run differential. In contrast, in the two seasons prior to her arrival, the Aggies went 3-4 with a -14 run differential in postseason games.
SEC TOURNAMENT CO-CHAMPIONS
Texas A&M was declared SEC Tournament Co-Champions after the championship game against Oklahoma was canceled due to inclement weather in Athens, Georgia. It marked the first title for A&M since joining the league prior to the 2013 softball season. The Maroon & White set SEC Tournament records in batting average (.418), runs (26) and RBI (25), while playing only two games. Individually Amari Harper set an SEC Tournament single game record with six RBI in the semifinal round. Freshman KK Dement matched an SEC Tournament record nine RBI hitting 3-for-7, including two home runs, one double and three runs, while finishing with a 1.429 slugging percentage. A&M made its way to the title game winning the quarterfinal against No. 12 South Carolina, 12-4, followed by a dismantling of No. 5 Texas, 14-2, in five innings. It marked only the third semifinal mercy rule win in SEC Tournament history, while the 14-2 win is the largest margin of victory in the history of the SEC Tournament. Dement, Amari Harper and Koko Wooley each were named to the SEC All-Tournament Team. Dement matched an SEC Tournament record nine RBI, while Harper and Wooley each averaged .833 at the dish to become only the second and third players to do so in tournament history. Harper set an SEC Tournament single game record driving in a career-high six RBI against Texas.
SAINT FRANCIS PREVIEW
Saint Francis (26-24) earned the No. 4 seed in the Bryan-College Station Regional after punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament with a 6-0 win over LIU in the Northeast Conference Tournament. The Red Flash have qualified for the NCAA Tournament seven times in the last eight seasons. Texas A&M and Saint Francis meet for the first time in program history. The Red Flash are led by Savannah Nash earning 2025 NEC Player of the year, while Olivia Ulam earned Golden Glove honors. Nash is batting .423 at the dish with 13 home runs and 14 doubles, while adding 38 RBI and 41 runs.
