No. 14 Aggies Host Texas A&M Invitational
Sep 17, 2025 | Volleyball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 14 Aggie volleyball team returns home to host Southeastern Louisiana, New Hampshire and Loyola Marymount at the Texas A&M Invitational Sept. 18-20 at Reed Arena.
Texas A&M gears up for its opening three home contests following a seven-game road stint which included five wins and two losses. The Maroon & White got off to a fast start winning their first five games, marking the third-consecutive year doing so under head coach Jamie Morrison's leadership. In their most recent fixtures, the Aggies dropped a pair of tightly fought ranked contests versus No. 10 SMU (0-3) and then-No. 15 TCU (2-3).
Maddie Waak has been the headline act for the Aggies in the early portion of the season, as the senior has recorded 308 assists on the year and has registered four matches with 50 or more assists. The Katy, Texas, native also averages 11.41 assists per frame which ranks first in the SEC and third overall in the nation.
Balance has been the key to Texas A&M's offense through the opening seven games. The Maroon & White's three standout pins including Logan Lednicky, Emily Hellmuth and Kyndal Stowers have accounted for 259 of the teams 384 kills, as they have registered 94, 84 and 81, respectively.
The middle blocker tandem of Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Morgan Perkins have made their presence felt at the net while on the road. The pair have stuffed 62 swings as a duo with Cos-Okpalla leading the way with 38, while Perkins follows with 24.
Ava Underwood has donned the Aggies' libero jersey throughout the season, pacing the team in digs with 82 on the year. Addi Applegate's defense has also impressed, as the freshman has added 42 digs.
The Matchups
The Aggies open their home stand against Southeastern Louisiana, marking only the second meeting all-time between the two programs. Texas A&M won the lone matchup back in 1976, and now nearly 50 years later the Lions will make their first trip to Reed Arena, carrying a 5-3 record on the season.
On paper, the Aggies bring a statistical advantage across the board. The Maroon & White average 14.22 kills per set, hitting at .271, while the Lions post 13.28 per set at .215. The Aggies also run one of the SEC's most balanced attacks, led by Lednicky, who contributes 3.76 kills per set, which is identical to the Lions' top hitter in Kira McKelvey, who also averages 3.76 kills per set.
The following day, Texas A&M squares off with New Hampshire for only the second time in program history. The Maroon & White and the Wildcats first faced off last year at this invitational, where the Aggies claimed a hard fought five-set victory.
New Hampshire enters the weekend with a 6-4 record and is coming off a three-set victory over Merrimack. Texas A&M holds a clear advantage defensively, averaging 13.67 digs per set compared to the Wildcats 10.23 digs per set and 2.44 blocks per frame versus UNH's 2.21.
The Aggies close out the invitational against Loyola Marymount, marking the third meeting all-time between the two programs. The Maroon & White hold a 2-0 advantage in the series, with the most recent matchup coming in 2013 when the Aggies secured a 3-1 win on a neutral floor.
This season, the Lions holds a 1-5 record with the lone win coming in their last match versus Western Michigan. LMU has been tested versus multiple nationally ranked teams, as it has faced BYU (16), Arizona State (8) and Southern California (19). They now tee off versus the No. 14 Maroon & White who lead the Lions in kills per set, hitting percentage, assists per set, digs per set and blocks per set.
