WACO – The No. 8 Texas A&M men's tennis team fell to No. 17 LSU, 4-3, in the back draw of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center Saturday morning.
The Aggies (6-3) started on the front end after securing the doubles point. The No. 33 tandem of Kholo Montsi and Alex Frusina picked up a ranked win on court 1 over the No. 81 duo of Erik Arutiunian and Matias Ponce de Leon, 6-4. The Tigers responded, grabbing court 3. Theo Papamalamis and Lathan Skrobarcek secured the point on court 2 after going into a tiebreaker, 7-6(3).
LSU (8-1) struck first in singles, taking court 4. Sophomore Papamalamis responded for the Maroon & White, defeating Olaf Pieczkowski in straight sets on court 1, 6-1, 6-4.
Montsi built off that momentum, putting the Aggies one shy of the clinch with a win on court 3. After a neck-and-neck first set, the junior was able to pull away in the second to earn the point, 7-5, 6-2.
