Aggies Drop 4-2 Decision to Stanford in NCAA 2nd Round

COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M men's tennis team's 2025-26 season ended with a 4-2 loss to the Stanford Cardinal in the second round of the NCAA Championships on Sunday at the George P. Mitchell '40 Tennis Center.

The Aggies finished with a 20-10 record, while the Cardinal (19-8) advanced to next Saturday's Super Regional round against the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth.

"These NCAA tournament matches with everything on the line have razor-thin margins," Aggie head coach Steve Denton said. "We did a great job of stealing the doubles point and that put us in a good spot, but we weren't able to close out a couple of first sets once we got to singles. That was ultimately the difference. We dropped some close first sets that were our undoing. They are a good team so once they got on top of us, they were even better and probably relaxed them a little bit more."

Texas A&M opened fast by taking the doubles point for an early lead, but the Cardinal grabbed the momentum in singles by winning first sets on four courts. Senior Togan Tokac, in his final match as an Aggie, delivered a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jagger Leach at court 5 for the Aggies' second point. Stanford took the win with four straight-set victories to punch its ticket to the Sweet 16.

Earlier in doubles, sophomore Alex Frusina's forehand winner down the line completed a rally that saw the Aggies win the final three points of the game to rally from a 40-15 deficit. Frusina and junior partner Kholo Montsi clinched the point with a 7-5 win over Stanford's Nico Godsick and Hudson Rivera at the No. 2 line. Earlier, the Aggies' top duo of sophomore Theo Papamalamis and Tokac, ranked No. 2 nationally, broke Stanford early and cruised to a 6-3 win in 34 minutes over Alex Razeghi and Alex Chang.

"We fought hard," Denton added. "We had a lot of good matches this year and ultimately it comes down a couple points here and there. I think Stanford was just a little better than us today. They were really good in a couple of spots and that was the difference."
